Ranking Member Walz Applauds Committee Passage Of Six Bipartisan Veterans Bills

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Ranking Member Tim Walz (D-MN) released the following statement after the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs voted to pass six pieces of bipartisan legislation out of Committee.

“Today, Members on both sides of the aisle demonstrated their gratitude and respect to the men and women who bravely served in uniform for the United States,” Rep. Walz said. “I’d like to thank all Members of the Committee, Democrats and Republicans alike, who worked hard to see these bills succeed. The legislation passed today serves as an example of the good we can achieve when we work together to improve the lives of veterans. I am thankful for the bipartisan nature of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, and I thank my friend and colleague, Chairman Roe, for his leadership and tireless commitment to serving our nation’s heroes.” 

The six pieces of legislation include: 

  • H.R. 1066: The VA Management Alignment Act of 2017
  • H.R. 3122: The Veterans Care Financial Protection Act of 2017
  • H.R. 3561:  To amend title 38, United States Code, to permit appraisers approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to make appraisals for purposes of chapter 37 of such title based on inspections performed by third parties
  • H.R. 3562: To amend title 38, United States Code, to authorize the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to furnish assistance for adaptations of residences of veterans in rehabilitation programs
  • H.R. 3656:  To establish a consistent applicability date for provision of memorial headstones and markers for eligible non-veteran individuals
  • H.R. 3657:  To expand authority to provide headstones and markers to eligible spouses and dependents in tribal veterans cemeteries
